"AU RESERVOIR"

horizontal rule

Lucia finds her authority undermined when Georgie is invited to visit London at the request of his old friend, diva Olga Braceley. Swallowing her pride, Lucia accompanies him to London and they visit the opera to see Olga perform in "Lucrezia", a new opera written for her by Signor Cortese. Sharing their box is Poppy, the Duchess Of Sheffield, who develops an instant fascination with Georgie, whom she mistakes for the Mayor of Tilling. Returning to Tilling, Lucia and Georgie’s trip is overshadowed by the news that Quaint Irene’s painting of Mapp has been declared "picture of the year" and has extensive press coverage. Making things worse, Lucia is further frustrated when she is caught out by not being able to speak Italian, tries to visit Poppy at Sheffield castle only to be turned away after  a few brief words with her  -  and the town council refuse  to hang her portrait, which she had specially painted by Irene, in the council chambers. Her one chance to score is thwarted when no one believes her when she says that she has had Poppy, the Duchess Of Sheffield, to "dine and sleep" with her. Only when the Duchess is present at one of Lucia’s dinners as well as her other Tilling friends, do they finally believe her.
