30th July-3rd
August 2004 Invited to France to dance in the little village of Clairvoux,
in the Avyron region of France.
| Roger, one of the Argarmeles musicians, has a house in rural France, and organized this visit with the local folk club. He also arranged accommodation with locals in the village for some members of the team. Four of the party stayed at a nearby Guest House, and the remainder of the party were camping as part of their holidays. As four of the Argarmeles are married to Southport Swords, the Swords were able to field a supplemented team. | ||||
Friday:- The party arrive from the Airport at Rodez at Rogers for a light lunch. |
In the afternoon, a short stroll to the local bar for a welcome drink. |
Saturday:- Clairvoux. (pop 1007) After a practice at lunchtime, it was back to the town square for about 7pm, when the local folk club members very kindly put on a meal of local specialties for us. |
One of which is Aliote. Mashed potato, cheese & garlic, cooked & shirred very carefully until it is just right. Mmmm Very tasty! |
After the meal was cleared away & seating laid out, a couple of hundred locals gathered to watch the Argarmeles & Swords dance for about 1 1/2 hrs! |
The local folk band, who played for the social dancing which started after our display ( after 11pm). |
I believe they kept it up until 2AM! |
Sunday:- Market day in Marcillaic. Limbering up! Whatever next? |
It was very hot work dancing in temperatures of 34C. |
Macillaic was a lovely small town (pop 1,700), with a thriving market. |
It was not easy to find shade it which to dance. |
Free wine tasting as well! |
Some of the Argarmeles dance Rapper as Red Rose Rapper. |
After dancing a few of us went with the campers back to their very nice camp site at Marcillaic. For a welcome cool down. |
The back to Clairvouix, where we danced for the local old peoples home. It was a wonderful place ( a few of us wanted to put our names down in advance). |
It was in an old convent & had super facilities & lovely grounds & gardens. Afterwards we were fed & watered royally by the home in what they called a kiosk. Which was more like a gazebo that could seat about 100. |
On the way back to the camp site the campers dropped the B&B party off & we did a few mix & match dances on their terrace.
The campers saying their good-byes to the B&B ers before they set of on Monday for the rest of their hols. |
Monday:- Conques. Roger, our host, had organized a trip for the remaining members of the party to this mediaeval town, up in the mountains. |
It was a very picturesque & interesting place. Well worth a visit. |
Finally on Monday night Roger & Rosemary, organized a BBQ for us in their garden. Roger is on the left & Wendy (our Squire) is on the right. |
Bon appetite & Bon voyage. and a big thank you to Roger & Rosemary, The Claivouix Folk Club, Adam & Christophe at the B&B, and the people of Clairvouix & Marcillaic. Au revoir |
