Scarce and local. Seldom seen, even in summer, because of nocturnal habits; often sluggish during daylight hours. Hibernates from October to May depending on the season. Feeds mainly on flowers, nuts and fruits, especially honeysuckle and hazel. Isolated colonies found mainly in C and S England and Wales.
