The ladybird
The seven-spot ladybird is Britain's most common ladybird. During the winter they
hibernate under bark and in other sheltered places, but from April onwards you should be able
to see these colourful critters as they wake from their slumber.
In the summer of 1976 the ladybird population exploded in the UK. Sadly, because there were
so many, areas of southern and eastern England were covered in millions of dead ladybirds who
died of starvation when their food supply ran out.
