A familiar bird of farmland throughout most of lowland, mainland Britain and Ireland. Often seen in large flocks feeding in fields or at colonial tree nest sites where noisy and active from early March to May. Glossy black plumage. Adult has bare, white facial patch at base of long bill; absent in immatures.
