Peña Flamenca "El Pele"

Scotland

A peña (pronounced 'penya') flamenca is a flamenco appreciation society and is usually named after a flamenco performer whom the society particularly admires. Juan Moreno Maya "El Pele", from Cordoba in Andalucía, is one of the greatest modern gypsy singers of authentic "cante jondo" - flamenco's "deep song".

The Peña "El Pele" has been established in Glasgow to promote the performance and appreciation of real flamenco and is committed to presenting flamenco in the circumstances in which most Spaniards would expect to experience it: sitting around a table with friends, having a "copa" of wine, with a "tapa" or two and a first-class flamenco "cuadro" performing with passion and dedication.
