Frequently asked Questions

I've seen a piece of work I really like in one of your galleries, is it okay if I just lift it from your site ?
No. Pretty much everything that is on my website has already been used by a band, record label or magazine. The quality of the graphics used on my site isn't comparable to the original artwork. The files have been hugely compressed as Jpeg to allow reasonably quick download times. They look fine on screen, but if printed will appear VERY rough with hardly any recognisable detail. I'm fine with visitors right clicking my work and saving it to disc for their own personal reference but please, no stealing for any other use.
Do you charge for your artwork, if so what are your rates ?

Yes, so please don't ask for freebies. Every job is completely different so I don't have a 'price list' so to speak. But to help me give you an indication of a price range for a particular job the more information you have about what exactly you want, the more specific I can be. Things I need to know are what kind of style of artwork you're interested in. The very detailed full colour drawn/painted illustrative work is obviously most labour intensive and that therefore reflects in the price. Whilst digital collage work is a faster medium to work with and is cheaper. Also do you want just one image for a front cover of a CD or a whole series of works for a booklet, or the entire package and layout ? No job is too big or too small.

If you have a budget set aside for artwork for your album / magazine etc then let me know and I can tell you what I can or cannot do for that. Above all I try to be flexible. At the moment I have to do straight forward day jobs to keep me afloat as I don't even begin to make a living from my artwork, but obviously if in the future I can live off something I enjoy then I'd love to be able to. My rates are very reasonably priced and you get very professional, high quality artwork for your money, Not to mention service with a smile ;o))

What information do you need before you can start working on some artwork for me?

Basically the more you can tell me the better. First and foremost what is the deadline ? If you've recorded your album and artwork is an afterthought and you're wanting a full package design by tomorrow chances are you'd be better off going somewhere else. I'm used to working to tight deadlines (within reason) but I am often working on several projects at once so I have to carefully structure my time, so the more notice you can give me the better.

What exactly is the artwork going to be used for ? And what format do you require it in ? As a rule I supply all work as hi-resolution digital files on CDR plus print proofs on glossy paper. Illustration work is supplied as digital reproductions, however if you would like the actual artwork as well this can be arranged for an extra fee.

Regarding subject matter. The more you can tell me the easier it is for me to get started. Is there a specific theme or have you got a very definite idea of what you want it to portray ? If you have an album title, or song titles, or lyrics, then send them along I'm used to working up ideas from simple text. If, as if often the case, you really don't have any preconceived ideas about what you want and would like me to "do whatever you like" that's absolutely fine, but please be sure you really mean that. Too many times I've ended up wasting days (sometimes weeks) doing a whole series of work under this guideline only to eventually be told that although they didn't know what they wanted, what I have done isn't really what they "had in mind" I'm not psychic so please bear that in mind. Time permitting I will usually send you rough sketches and drafts to okay before I start on the artwork proper.

Regarding style you could always point me in the direction of any previous work on my site, as although I endeavour to make each new piece original, I do have an obvious style and some repeated themes so that helps me in realising what kind of feel you are after for the finished work.

Do you have any spare artwork that we could see so we can choose something for our release?
Unfortunately not. Everything in the various illustration and digital galleries has been made for specific projects. At the moment I simply haven't the time to build up any kind of library or backlog of personal, unused work. This is something I would like to be able to offer in the future. Work in the personal galleries is generally large scale, one off fine art work not really designed for use in CD cover design etc. However if necessary I could develop a reproduction of some of this work into a design project.
Is the work in your personal galleries for sale ? Which pieces are still available and what are the prices ?
Much of this work has been made for various exhibitions. Some of it has been sold, others are still in my studio. If you are interested in anything please email me and I will send you a list of availability and prices. Please take into account the dimensions of the work as it is often quite large and heavy. I'm also happy to take on personal commissions.

I hope that has been of some help. If you have any other questions or want further information then don't hesitate to email me - bonehive@hotmail.com
