Some Thorpe Camp Exhibits

As you turn off the road into our car park you will see on your right the Memorial Propeller which used to stand at the entrance to RAF Woodhall Spa until they were stood down in 2003.

At the entrance to the Visitor Centre stands a Lightning XM 192 (which served with the RAF during the 1960s & 70s) and a Ferranti Bloodhound Surface to Air Missile (SAM). These were stationed here between 1950 and 1965.

The remaining outside feature is the Memorial Garden dedicated in 2002 to all those who lost their lives while serving at RAF Woodhall Spa. Each of the four Squadrons serving here has its own small garden and plaque bearing the Coat of Arms.

During the dedication there was a fly-past of a Spitfire, Lancaster and Hurricane of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

However, most of the exhibits are indoors where you will find general displays depicting every aspect of the Airfield and a special bay for each Squadron. There are also areas showing Civilian Life in Lincolnshire, the battle for Arnhem, the Tirpitz, escape from enemy territory and many others.

Part of Display Hall A

We are particularly proud to have been chosen to permanently house the Imperial War Museum's display which toured the country in 2005 called "Their Past - Our Future"

The two Main Halls house many of the exhibits but as the collection increases many of the
surrounding buildings are also being used.

Here is a small selection of the exhibits (and events). Do you know, or can you guess, what they are?

Here are some clues:-
Tirpitz at Tromso, models of Mosquito and Lancaster with bombs carried, model of Vulcan bomber, . . .

. . . display of Arnhem campaign, Lancaster parts, submarine netting, runway arrester gear, V2 combustion chamber, a 617 Dam and our NAAFI where you can get refreshments.

There were 20 pictures, how many did you manage to identify? To find out more about all these exhibits (and the many others) you will have to visit the museum. See the Home Page for details.
