The Charles Close Society currently has over 500 members worldwide,
although the vast majority live in the UK. Members range from
professional cartographers working in the OS, other government
departments to map dealers, map librarians, hill-walkers, windmill
enthusiasts, industrial archeologists, collectors of ephemera
and indeed people who simply use and appreciate OS maps and want
to know more about them.
Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in any aspect of OS. Members receive the Society's tri-annual journal, Sheetlines, which is recognised internationally for its expert articles on a huge number of OS and OS-related topics, reviews of OS products and news of current activities. The annual general meeting has been held in London, Edinburgh(1993, 1998 and 2003) and Nuneaton, Manchester(2001) and Ludlow(2004), is followed by a popular 'map-mart' attended by most of the major second-hand OS map sellers in the UK.
The Society has visited the Ordnance Survey in Southampton several times in recent years and are always made most welcome and the 2002 AGM was held there and will be again in 2005. Read about a visit to The Ordnance Survey here.
Members can also take advantage of discounts which are available from time to time on some of the Society's Publications - details of current pricing and any discounts are available from the Society's Publications Manager. Members are sent details of these special offers with Sheetlines or the Almanack.
