You are welcome to join us for a special COMHALTAS CEOLTOIRI EIREANN Event to remember the late Gerry Whelan Gerry was actively involved with Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann since the organisation was set up in 1951, and was President of the Ulster Council for a period of thirty years. With his beloved melodeon or bodhran in hand, Gerry liked nothing better than to settle down to a good seisuin.
A weekend of music sessions with local and visiting musicians. Music workshops on Banjo, Fiddle and Accordion, Singing & Storytelling. Memorial concert with welcome address by Comhaltas President, Jim Teevan, and special Guest Artists – Peter Horan & Gerry Harrington; Gerry ‘Fiddle’ O’Connor & Cathal McConnell; Angelina Carberry & Martin Quinn, Geraldine Bradley Singer, Seamus Fay Lilter, supported by Ring of Gullion CCE and local musicians. All Ireland Marching Bands Parade. Open Air Session. The Gerry Whelan event started on July 8, 2005, with a memorial concert, organised by Martin Donohoe & the NYAH group, where musicians and friends of the late Gerry Whelan gathered to pay tribute to one of the true friends of music, musicians and music lovers. Since then it has become a weekend event, and has grown from strength to strength. |
