'Journeys of the heart' consists of six accomplished pieces that
link classical, folk and Celtic influences together. And just to add to the fun, here and there poking through
there's a bit of pop groove, most notably on the closing "The lakeside fire" which also includes some
very nice sax from Dave Fitzgerald. As you'd guess the presence of Fitzgerald and Iona member, Tim Oliver, guarantee
the musical quality here as well as contributing to the overall atmospheric vibe of the CD. The opening 'kiddie'
chords of "Rockaby" set the tone for an intensely emotional opening for the album as the song was inspired
by the tragic Kosovic conflict. "Antiphon" floats Charity's voice above some classic Fitzgerald woodwind
and will appeal to Iona fans. "The return" begins gently enough, but then settles into an understated
groove for the chorus, whilst "The magnificat" is pure worship with pop feel. "I'll take my place
is my favourite piece here - a gentle breeze of a song with plenty of signature flourishes from Fitzgerald. Overall,
a confident debut from Charity that will appeal to those who have already discovered the joys of Celtic-flavoured
music.
