Fanfare team
The fanfare trumpeters played a specially composed Fanfare for Deal
at various stopping points on the route.
Roman soldiers
A small band of Roman soldiers followed behind the fanfare
trumpeters.
Tudor
Behind the Roman soldiers came a group representing the Tudor period.
Roundheads of the Civil War
A bunch of Roundheads from the Civil War follwed behind the Tudor
Lords and Ladies.
Napoleonic Wars
In the evening, a recital of poetry and song was held in St. George's
Church. All of the works, including a Fanfare for Deal, were
written by local artists for the Deal 300 celebrations.
An anthology consisting of a book and CD of the work is available
from the organisers of the event. |

At 3pm on Saturday 16th October, as part of
the Deal 300 celebrations, a parade of historical characters led by a
fanfare team left Deal Castle and paraded through the High Street
pedestrian precinct to King Street, returning via the sea front.
Historical re-enactment groups, supported by local schools and youth
groups, represented the Roman, Tudor, Civil War, Napoleonic and World
War 2 periods. A taped commentary was played at various points
along the route explaining the part played by the people of Deal
throughout the centuries in defending our corner of this little island.
Infantry of 1815
Resplendent in their scarlet tunics and white breeches, these
Infantrymen of 1815 vintage carried the flag proudly.
Black Watch
Paras (Red Berets) of World War 2
Bringing up the rear in the parade were a troop of paras and a bunch
of GIs. |
