These are dark days. Pericles has got his way. He's persuaded the Council to play for
safety... to shut ourselves in behind our walls. In all my years in the Assembly
I've never heard such things.
Pericles says that the Spartans will get bored sitting
outside the city ... they'll go away, get fed up.
I don't believe it. We have 19,000 soldiers in our army ...
we have another 3000 to guard the city walls AND 1600 special archers.
We should ATTACK. 50 years ago the Persians marched into our
city. We dare not let the Spartans do the same.
But ... they would not listen to me. My oratory was not good
