Darryl ... an
explanation. Darryl is
a ficticious CHARACTER for children to discover. Authors use small details to make their
characters 'real' and there are plenty of details about Darryl. The idea is that
children could create the text for the 'About Me' page of Darryl's website using the
information given in the other pages and the information given by letting the mouse rest
over the illustrations.
The idea for this character came from a
series of letters from a little boy called Norman who fell out with his parents and went
to live in a tree house. ( These were published a few years ago by Scholastic ). Darryl
came to mend the family fridge / cooler / freezer / ice-box and left a note for Norman
tied to the tree house rope that said something like ....
'Keep it up kid. I lived in a tree house too
when I was young. I can't remember why .... You've got my full support.'
There will be more characters like Darryl at
a future date.
