1977

A reminder of times gone by is depicted on the village sign, which was
unveiled at a ceremony on Tuesday 7th June. Carved by well-known Swaffham
sign maker Mr. Harry Carter, its shows the former windmill and the lighthouse
in the village. Also one of the weary boats, which used to be a common
sight on the Fen waters.
Villagers turned out in force, despite the rain, to see Mrs. Hannah Norman
(picture beside sign) and her sister Miss May Dunnett-both founder members
of the village WI unveil the sign.
The two sisters, who are both in there 80s, have been members of the village
WI for 49 years. Mrs. Norman was president for 25 years and Miss Dunnett
treasurer for 39 years.
Money for the sign was raised by social dances and events organized by
the WI. A plaque is to be put on the sign base to say who unveiled it.
The Rector, the Rev John Arris and Methodist Minister, the Rev John Wren
gave a blessing and dedication.
