                       Please forward your condolences here

Dear everyone,

Thank you all for your gracious expressions of admiration and affection toward June.  This has been a very hard period for

us and we still don't really believe that she has gone. The Forests and the motorsport safety world meant so much to her.

We are struck by how many people served their apprenticeships with her, and through your comments we're beginning to

fully realise the degree to which she brought along subsequent generations of radios to continue supporting the rally world.

She would be so pleased to see how team members now are stepping up to ensure that Forest Radios will continue.

She has always been 'Mum' to us, and 'Auntie' to you; and now it feels as though all of you are our cousins.

Thank you for being such a great family.

With fondest regards,

David and Robin Aslin

If you never met, or heard, June (Forest 2)she has been in motorsport for many many years.  She is best known for her radio work but was also the secretary of SAFETY a group set up in the 70's to promote motorsport safety and that also lobbied the then RACMSA to introduce first a list of kit for Rescue Units and then the licensing of Rescue Units.
Farewell to June a true lady of motorsport.

Clive Chinnick - Forest 11

My sincere condolences go to June’s family, but I hope they get some comfort from knowing that she was a respected and admired person, but also a friend to us all, certainly within the rallying fraternity, and was always willing to let someone ‘have a go’.

June introduced me to Rally safety radio about eighteen years ago and allowed me to become one of her loyal Forest radios. June was ‘Old School’ when it came to radio operation, and if you made a mistake, or got something wrong, a phone call later that evening was all it took to make sure you did not make that mistake again. June was my mentor and I spent many happy days working with her, either as one of her team, when she was Forest Control, or latterly as my assistant when I was Forest Control and she said that she couldn’t manage to run control anymore, but I always knew who was really the boss!  Everyone will miss June, and I am no exception, and next time I am ‘doing radio’ I will try even harder to get it right, as I know she will be ‘up there’ keeping an eye on us all.

Rallying has lost a hardworking, enthusiastic supporter. Although not in the best of health latterly June still managed attend events when she was able to ensuring also that she brought along a Forest of radios in support. Our sport has lost yet one more character. Condolences to June's family and friends.

Viper Recovery Barbara and I would like to express our deep sadness on hearing about June.
When we first started in Motor Sport many years ago, June instructed us both
in the correct way to use a MSA radio, following June's instructions we passed
our exam, how could we fail. Like so many in Motor Sport June was a friend
to us all and her extensive knowledge was always freely given.
She will be sadly missed.   Mick / Barbara Shepard

Paul Turvey It is with deep sadness that I heard of Junes passing today. She was part of my life from a very early age, having set up the Forest Radio Group with my old man (Forest 1).I have some very fond memories from over the years, including of the nice cars she always had, which she could certainly drive! More than that though she was a dear friend to my mother and I will always be indebted to her for the kindness and support she gave Joyce through some very difficult times. My Condolences to Dave and his family, and to everyone who's life she was part of. Rest In Peace and thank you

I first met June when I was a ROOKIE working with the MERCURY Founded Dick Taylor. Many years of meeting in very strange places with shared sites doing Links and controls, not always on the same net. My wife Met June only a few times and always asked after her when I had been out on events with the Forests. June will be sadly missed, but on a personal note, June Queen of the Forests is how I will remember her.

Bill Martindale
I'd like to pass on my condolences to June's family. The last time that I had the pleasure of speaking to June was back in 1984 on the RAC. I have very fond memories of working with her on many rallies. One of the first times I marshalled, I was thrown in at the deep end or so I thought. That is when I met June for the first time. She soon had me sorted out.
Being driven over Epynt to the end of the New Road in her RS2000 is a memory that will stay with me.

JUNE ASLIN

June was an inspiration for so many people showing very strongly until fairly recent months that age should not get in the way of activities that you enjoy. She went from what would be considered a normal parent of grown up children to being a very committed rally stalwart along with her late husband and ended up operating as organiser, stage commander, safety radio pioneer, radio marshalling group leader, “Safety” committee member, radio controller, etc etc.  And that all started just about 40 years ago – so half her lifetime was dedicated to our beloved sport. Better still, she had similar views to mine in that if she was going to do something then by god it was going to be done properly, and as such set a fabulous standard and example to the many people she inspired and nurtured into the sport. I always used to enjoy watching peoples faces as they saw a smart fast Subaru P1 speeding down the lanes and pulling into the forest and then for a grey haired “old lady” to climb out along with Betsy, her faithful companion who will have spent the journey sliding from one side of the back seat to the other as June will have thrown the P1 round the bends. I will miss the quick phone calls that would take an hour or two or more to get through the natter and gossip of the rally world. I will miss ribbing her about her embarrassing moments such as her having to apologise to the event radio network when the trapped mic wiping the comms out was found to be her own radio control mic after Betsy had stood between the seats and had put her paw on the mic. And I will miss June constantly berating and blaming me for getting her, and her family, involved in this rallying sport which had since become such a time consuming passion for her over the last 40 years.

To her family, most of whom I have never met except for Keith but have heard so much of over the years, I can only pass my deepest sympathies on your loss of such a wonderful matriarch.

Take care June, and get all that mob up there organised and working in the right way ready for when the rest of us arrive.

Love as always from Roger and all “the ZSARs”

Dave & Carla Penycate, Farnborough 2

on behalf of Farnborough District Motor Club

Compared to most we are new to the rally world, only 9 years in total.
June was a great help to us when we started out in rally radio. It was through June that we spend so much time in Wales.
Many years ago June was control on an event at the Royal Welsh Showground. She was looking for somebody to share a cottage with her, we did, and have been there many times since. Sometimes back at Tylegarw Farm, but the last few years in our caravan. Many a meal was had with June in the Tanners Arms at Defynnog.
June will be sadly missed by us and many others in the 'rally family'.

Chris Evans

June was such a fantastic and enthusiastic lady and it was always a pleasure to see / hear her on events. The first time I saw her I was stunned at the arrival of a Subaru Impreza at the stage start to see this marvellous lady step out of it. Over the years of knowing June it always put a smile on my face when she said “Well that was a fun drive over, I did see a Police car in my rear view mirror, but I soon lost them!” She was an ambassador for the MSA Radio Safety & Medical frequency and will never be forgotten.  My condolences go out to first and foremost her beloved family and secondly to all at Forest Radios who had lost a great leader. Forest 2 from Summit Control “ Now Colin McRae, Michael ‘Beefy’ Park, Richard Burns et al have somebody to make sure their ‘Rally of the Gods’ will run smoothly and safely”

June – RIP xx

Geoff & Sandra - Forest 6
Our deepest sympathy to June's family. June will be sorely missed in the rally world. She was not only the ' Boss' but 'Auntie June' the friend who you could have a chat to on the phone. My memories go way back to when Forest Radios started and those real RAC Rally's when we did something like 8 stages in 5 days, if my memory serves me right! Real rallies, real camaraderie and really good leadership. Farewell June and thank you.

Jon Cordery - Forest 15

Chair British Rally Marshals Club

When I started marshalling back in the late 1970’s June was one of the group that I started with.  She taught me a lot and guided me in the art of marshalling.  She was a founder member of the British Rally Marshals Club and with Colin Turvey started the Forest Radio group.  She was an inspiration to everyone she met.  She will be sadly missed.  Farewell and thank you June.  My condolences go to her family.

Richard Tapp - Forest 3

I am so saddened to hear of June's passing.  I had the privilege of working with June for many years from the late 1980s, sharing the Forest 3 callsign with Mick Higham.  I was honoured to work on Forest Control with her and see at first hand the dedication and perfectionism which she brought to the role.  I was also allowed to co-drive some of her machinery - she was certain she was doing Vauxhall's testing on a Calibra turbo, the last of her line of Astras and Calibras before her iconic Subaru.  June's talents went beyond her rallying - many will know of her quiet kindness and support for others at difficult times, and she was also keen artist, and at one time author of many columns for one of the rallying mags.  The rallying world is much the poorer for her passing, but we are enriched by having known her and by her memory.  May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Richard Elms - Forest 26

Although I was only a late recruit to the Forest family June was patient with me and always took time to chat when we could. I think the remarks that have already been made sum up all of my thoughts now that June is helping run that great stage in the sky with all the other motor sport greats we have lost. She is in very good and very appropriate company.
God bless her.

Andrew Mansfield (ex Rover 2)
The late June Aslin.  I used to marshall with June in the 70's with the Rovercovery team and the One Nighters. Happy days (and cold nights) what a lovely lady and true sport . R I P .

Auntie June, who aided the RAF Motorsports Association at many a training weekend at RAF Wittering.  You will be greatly missed by all involved in the Motorsport Safety Community. Rest In Peace.

John Riseley

I was saddened to hear this morning of the passing of June.Having been involved in the racing side of the sport for many years I was introduced to rallying in the late 70’s as a member of Andy Large’s Clip Rescue Unit. From the outset it was obvious to me that Forest 2 was an integral part of any rally and that June (and her ‘navigator’) was someone who was universally looked up to and respected. She was the calming voice that every rescue unit wanted to hear on the other end of a radio. If ever an example was needed, to explain to someone how to operate a radio, June was that example. Rest in Peace June, the world and rallying were better places with your involvement.
