Eucalyptus is one of the most well known essential oils. It has been used as an ingredient of cough and cold remedies for decades and is valued in aromatherapy as a powerful antiseptic, killing airborn germs when used in a burner or spray. It is of particular value in the sickroom because of this. It is an excellent decongestant and can be used in inhalations to ease the symptoms of colds, flu and sinusitis.
To boost the antiseptic effect of eucalyptus, it can be blended with an equal quantity of Tea Tree oil. Eucalyptus is also a good treatment for cold sores.
Contraindications: must not be taken internally-as little as 3.5ml has proved fatal. This oil is not compatable with homeopathic treatments.
