Mandarin/Tangerine

Citrus reticulata

Citrus

Therapeutically[and odiferously], Mandarin and Tangerine oils have very similar properties, so for this reason, I’m putting them both under the same heading. Both oils are excellent as toners for congestion of the skin, acne, oiliness and pimples. They also are highly recommended for scars and stretch marks-the oils of choice, in fact.

Mandarin/Tangerine are soothing and cheering with slightly sedative effect

These are two of the very few oils considered safe for use during pregnancy, although, obviously, massage should be done gently at this time. The oils are also safe for children and can soothe an over-excited child if used in massage or a warm bath. Always remember, however, to use half quantities for children and use extremely sparingly for babies.[This goes for any essential oil-even if it is considered safe for use on the very young]

Combined with calming oils such as Camomile, Lavender or Sandalwood, Mandarin/Tangerine can  be wonderfully relaxing and will facilliate a restful nights sleep as well as having a soothing effect on the stomach and intestines if there is a digestive upset. These two oils are recommended as a slimming massage for hips and thighs and can reduce cellulite.

Contraindications-Mandarin/Tangerine are gentle oils, but they are slightly phototoxic so do not use on the skin before exposure to the sun or sunbeds. As with all citrus oils, they tend to oxidise quickly, so use within 6 months of purchase and do not use old oils

Blends well with Ylang Ylang, Camomile, Clary Sage, Sandalwood and Lavender..
