Orange
Bitter Orange-Citrus aurantium
Sweet Orange-Citrus sinensis
Citrus
Orange essential oil (bitter or sweet varieties) shares qualities with other citrus oils-particularly Mandarin and Tangerine. They are good for fighting infectious illnesses such as colds and flu and for boosting the immune system-due to the high vitamin C content. Orange oil is valuable as a toner for acne, congested, dull, sallow and greasy facial skin.
It is recommended for calming overtired, fractious children, particularly if added to the bath water. Orange is a cheering, uplifting oil that promotes confidence and has the ability to refresh and de-stress at the same time. These qualities make it an excellent treatment for mild depression where anxiety is a factor; and after a hard, tense day at work, this oil can be used in the bath to relax and rejuvinate without a sedative effect. Orange oil also has a stomachic action, helpful for digestive ailments, such as gastritis, dyspepsia, indigestion, flatulence and constipation.
Contraindications-in common with all citrus oils, Orange oxidizes quickly, so use within 6-9 months of purchase. This oil is phototoxic, so avoid use on the skin before exposure to the sun or sunbeds.
Blends well with other citrus oils, Clary Sage, Frankincense and spicy oils.
