Petitgrain
Citrus aurantium/C bigaradia
Citrus
This oil has a delightful woody/earthy undertone to the orangy scent. It is distilled from the leaves and twigs of the bitter orange tree- Neroli (with which it has much in common therapeutically), is distilled from the flowers of this same tree.
Petitgrain’s main benefits are it’s stress relieving properties. It is used to ease anxiety, mild depression and nervous tension. On a physical level, it has mild antiseptic qualities and astringency which make it useful in the treatment of spotty, oily skin when it can be delightfully effective blended into an unscented toning lotion. Petitgrain also helps to combat greasy hair and dandruff if mixed into an unscented shampoo or hair rinse.
It is particularly effective when used in massage or a relaxing bath soak for nervousness and it is said to be helpful for those undergoing convalaesence.
Contraindications-citrus oils tend to oxidize quickly, so keep in a cool dark place.
Blends well with Neroli, Clary Sage, Cypress, Geranium, Juniper, Pine and Rosemary.
