Rosewood
Aniba rosaeodora
Woody
This is one of the trees that is being extensively felled in the clearing of the South American rainforests. The continual production of Rosewood essential oil is consequently detrimental to the environment. An ideal substitute is Ho Leaf or Ho Wood, which is grown in Japan and is more plentiful (see entry). All of these three oils are good for skin care. Acne, dermatitis, wrinkles and scars all benefit from their use. They stimulate the immune system and fight off infection and fevers. They are anti-depressant, mood enhancing oils and used in massage, benefit both skin and mood at the same time.
Rosewood/Ho Leaf/Ho Wood are believed to be beneficial to mature skin as a cellular stimulant and tissue rejuvenator. Rosewood is an intimate, relaxing essential oil and is regarded as having aphrodisiac qualities. Although it is a lovely oil, I cannot recommend it’s use because of the environmental issue, but I do recommend Ho Leaf and Ho Wood as delightful substitutes for Rosewood.
Blends well with Tangerine, Ylang Ylang, Rosemary and Geranium.
