Tea Tree

Melaleuca alternifolia

Green

The native Australians have been using this indigenous tree in their medical tradition for centuries. Now, International research has also discovered it’s impressive anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-septic and anti-biotic properties. For example, Tea Tree’s antiseptic action is considered to be 100 times more powerful than carbolic acid-but it is non-toxic. It is also a powerful stimulant to the immune system.

Tea Tree is effective against literally hundreds of  ailments, including: abcesses, herpes, veruccae, warts, infected wounds and cuts, bronchitis, whooping cough, thrush, cystitis, boils, candida albicans, athletes foot, ringworm, impetigo and gum infections etc. etc! In fact, Tea Tree oil is  an absolute “must have” for the home first aid kit as well as the aromatherapy chest!

It is one of the very few oils that can be safely used neat on the skin over small areas to treat boils, spots etc, as it is non-toxic and non-irritant, but, it is important to use a good quality oil from a reputable supplier, as Tea Tree oil is now so popular and in demand, that, inevitably, inferior grade oils are finding their way onto the market and these can, occasionally, cause skin sensitisation.

Tea Tree oil is excellent for hair care. If blended into an unscented shampoo, it deep cleanses oily hair and helps to eradicate dandruff as well.

Generally best used alone, as Tea Tree is highly odiferous and tends to overwhelm the other oils in a blend. One exception is the treatment for headlice-where it can effectively be used as a hair oil; for those aged 5 and over.

15 drops Tea Tree

15 drops Lavender

25 drops Rosemary

100 ml Grapeseed oil.

For age 5 and under, halve the quotient of essential oils.
