Welcome to the Garioch Road Runners 2008 Bennachie Junior Hill Race page.
This is the second running of a junior hill race on what we hope
will become a regular annual event.
The race was added last year to give everyone of all ages
a race to take part in on the day. It is intended that this race will fill
the
age
gap
between
the junior relay race and the senior hill race.

Race registration, the start and finish lines are all at the Back 'o Bennachie car park near Oyne, Aberdeenshire. OS map #38, grid reference 661244
The nearest Airport is Aberdeen (distance: 20miles)
The nearest Rail Station is Insch (distance: 4miles)
Directions for entrants coming from Aberdeen are as follows:-
From Aberdeen follow the A96 to Inverurie and continue for approx 7 miles to the turning to OYNE and INSCH on the B9002. Go left proceeding for another 1-3/4 miles passing through Oyne, before turning left at the signost marked GADIE BURN. Continue up that road for a further mile to the car park at the Back o' Bennachie.
The map above shows the route of the race; the race is run in an anti-clockwise
direction.
The route is approximately 3 miles in length with a total of 150m of
ascent required.
Route Description
The race follows the seniors' hill race route for the first 500m, before
junxing left, then right onto the sculpture walk path (dont worry, there
will be a
marshall at each junction, to make sure everyone is going the right way!)
Pass by the various scupltures along the route (including the totem pole)
before
joining the main path up onto the Bennachie range. You then go up the steepest
part of the route up to a marshall located at the top of the treeline. Its
then back down again, turning right onto a good steady slope down
onto the main cinder path/logging track at the bottom. Turn left onto the
cinder patch and from there its back along to the scuplture walk turn-off.
Then
there is a sharp right hand turn, following the original race route section
gently downhill back to the finishing line.
Prizes will be awarded for the 1st positions Male & Female in the U14, U16 & U18 age categories.
