Gight
Castle / Methlick Run Cancelled
We are not having a lot of
luck with the new runs this year. Jason's run from Methlick will
have to be rescheduled for later in the summer. There is nothing
wrong with the route this time but Jason has been nursing an injury
for a while and after flying around Aberdeen last weekend is going
to take a couple of weeks out to hopefully recover. As he is the
only one who knows this run we'd better not do it without him or a 5
miler might turn into a 15 miler.
The run was scheduled for
Tuesday 13th which is still a while away. Rather than leaving Steve
to pick an alternative lets have a vote on where we should run that
night. E mail your favourite to
Steve by friday 9th so we can
publish the result in time for the 13th. Any suggestions that he can
be influenced by gifts of good Australian red wine will be strongly
refuted!
Does anyone want a pre-entry form for Follow the
Herring 10K on Sunday 9th July? then drop
Steve an email. For anyone
wanting a real race weekend there is also a trail 10K at Balmedie
the day before (8th) Sounds a little different. For details and
entry visit www.greatrun.org and look for the Visit Scotland Great
Trail Run - Aberdeen.
Steve will be putting together the run
schedule for the rest of the summer in the next few days. If you
have any comments, suggestions, hates, wishes (I want to run
Pitfichie Cycle Trail every week!) etc etc, then let Steve
know.

Congratulations to our runners
who took part in the weekend's Scolty Hill Race.
Special
congratulations to Donna Gray who placed 2nd.
Results were as
follows:-
Donna Gray 42:45 (2nd lady)
Jane Eaton 46:40
Pete
Stephen 51:43
Well done
everyone!
---------------
Congratulations to GRR's Gillian
Burtwell who ran in last week's Culbin Forest 5.2m race near
Nairn.
Despite a nasty fall near the start of the race, Gillian
persevered, after some choice words of encouragement from her fellow
race competitors ('only real runners bleed')
She finished in a
time of 44:07 some 11mins quicker than her last attempt at this race
a few years ago.
Well done Gillian! Hope you have a speedy
recover and we see you back in training real
soon.

Ever listen to music when you're
on the run?
How about podcasts?
Well I listened to a
programme while out on yesterday's run, and was totally bowled
over.....
There's this podcast that we've mentioned before called
'Phedippidations' by this guy calling himself Steve Runner, who
records a show about running while he's out on his weekly long
run.
Well the other week, he did a show dedicated to a guy
called Terry Fox, who, if like me you'd never heard of before, is
one of those truely inspirational runners, I wish I had heard of a
lot earlier.
Turns out he ran a fundraising run called the
'Marathon of Hope', which was a coast to coast run across Canada
running 26m a day, with (get this) only 1 leg, having had the other
amputated as a result of cancer.
I challenge you to download
this show & have a listen to this story (preferably while you
are out running) and not to be affected in some way by this great
story.
Listen to it on your PC at home/work, or in your car on
the way to work, but give it a listen & see what you make of
it...especially if your laid up with an injury thats stopping you
from running right now.
Download the Tery Fox story (article
#46) at the

Good luck to
Graham Donaldson for this weekend's Edinbugh Marathon.
Judging by
your recent performances including the Baker Hughes 10k, you're in
for a awesome finishing time!
