GariochRR This Week

October 09, 2006Running despatches from the heart of the Garioch
Announcements
A big thank you to everyone who helped out and/or took part in last weekend's Bennachie Hill Race.
Despite the horrid weather the number of entries was only a couple down on last year, which is great news (standing in the park on Sunday morning while the heavens opened, did make a few of us wonder if anyone was going to turn up...)

Thanks also to everyone who sent in photos - the photo gallery on the web site is now bulging with photos & is well worth a look if you havent had a peek yet)

It was great to see so many GRR runners taking part, far more than I've seen for quite a few years - maybe GRRers have a preference for running in crappy weather...

Times for our GRRers were as follows:-
Jane Eaton 1:21:11
Aileen Kirkwood 1:23:36
Chantel Clark 1:25:30
Rachel Paterson 1:26:43
Alison Sutherland 1:42:51
James McGregor 1:09:06
Ian Cran 1:17:24
Grahame Thomson 1:19:32
Rab Murray 1:21:08
Richard Ingram 1:21:19
Duncan Leel 1:22:05
Brian Ross 1:24:41
Jack Booker 1:33:39
Peter Stephen 1:44:44

Well done everyone!

Anyway, it looks like our coffers have swollen by around £400 as a result of our efforts; its by no means the primary goal of the event, but it certainly helps.

============================

Now that summer is behind us, but still fresh in the memory, let us know which runs you liked, which you didn't and what we can do different next year. Send your comments to Steve subsea@virgin.net

============================

Congratulations to Jason Wilson who completed the Great North Run in 1:36:13 romping home in 1,391th position. Jason says it was slightly outside of his target time, but not bad in a year dominated by injury (which has returned), wedding and honeymoon.

Well done Jason!

============================

Congratulations also to Hazel Riddel and Gillian Burtwell who took part is last weekend's Loch Ness 10k race in times of 46:56 and 55:37 respectively.

Well done girls!

Check out GRR's Reuben Hunt (scroll down a bit) who in addition to his day job has taken up a bit of sportswear modelling.....I think the hat looks good Reuben, but I dont think youre gonna fit into that baywatch swimsuit no matter how much you stretch it...

What's Up This Week
Tuesday Evening...
Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
There's a choice of distances including 5m/6m/7m & 8.6m & even the odd hill for added fun.
GRR also has an arrangement with the sports centre for free use of their changing & shower facilities (just say you are with GRR at reception).
Click here for a map of where to meet (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Thursday Evening...
Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
Despite the less than ideal running surface, this isnt as bad as it sounds; its fully lit throughout, and at this time of year a clear crisp autumnal evening can be quite refreshing.
Click here for a map of where to meet (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Saturday 14th
Club run from Esson's car park, Bennachie.
Meet at 8.00am for an off-road run on our favourite hill.
With the 'nights fair drawin' in' & the mid-week runs in the dark, for some of us at least, this run becomes the highlight of the week - daylight & no tarmac - a fab combination!

Sunday 15th
Its Aviemore half marathon day & it sounds like just about all the club has entered this race.
Good luck to everyone - note that the race is full & no entries will be taken on the day

Have a great week

Run Long and Taper.
