XMAS Party Update

Thanks to everyone who replied with a preference on date & location of this year's xmas party.
Its going to be on Friday 23rd December at the Kintore Arms, Inverurie, bringing our party to the to party.
Ian Cran has stepped up & offered to organise our booking.
In order to get a firmer idea of numbers, Ian has asked (if you havent already done so), to indicate whether your partner will be coming along too.
For the unsure, partners are always welcome; so far its looking like a 50/50 mix for solo flyers and runners accompanied by running widows....

Please contact ian by email at: iancarcran@yahoo.co.uk
Thanks.

Has anyone any thoughts or suggestions for a club race weekend next year?
Eric McWilliam has entered the Gothenburg Half Marathon on May 12th which sounds fun. Well more fun than running 26 miles that's for sure.
Flights from Aberdeen via Copenhagen are currently less than £200 return if booked early.

What's Up This Week
Tuesday Evening...
Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
Note: fancy dress is entirely optional.....
There's a choice of distances including 5m/6m/7m & 8.6m & even the odd hill for added fun.
GRR also has an arrangement with the sports centre for free use of their changing & shower facilities (just say you are with GRR at reception).
Click here for a map of where to meet (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Thursday Evening...
Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
Despite the less than ideal running surface, this isnt as bad as it sounds; its fully lit throughout, and at this time of year a clear crisp autumnal evening can be quite refreshing.
Click here for a map of where to meet (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Saturday 4th
**Mountain Bike Special**
Club run from Esson's car park, Bennachie.
Meet at 8.00am for an off-road run on our favourite hill.
Just for a wee change, we're also having a mountain bike run this week
The route will decided on the day, so dust off your mountain bike & come along.

Due to a fustratingly slow recovery from a knee injury, Bruce came along last week armed with a mountain bike. It works well as far as still getting out for a bit of exercise, but be warned its not much easier than running the route...

Busses take you to the start at Templeton Woods for the race start at 10.30

or

NY Marathon Competition
November 5 2006 - its a date for the diary.

Its the day of the New York Marathon, and the one of the most eagerly anticipated marathons for some years in the history of this event.

This year Lance Armstrong, 7 times Tour de France winner, the man who doesnt know what defeat is, puts on a pair of running shoes (err Nike maybe?) and gives it his best shot.

Question is, how well will he do?

Will his undeniable endurance when it comes to taking on those monster mountain stages on his bike, hold him in good stead for 26.2 miles on the streets of New York?

Here's a chance to predict how well he will do.

GariochRR in conjunction with the NewYork Bagel Co. are running a wee competition to predict Lance Armstrong's finishing time in the New York Marathon.

The closest time to his gun time wins a month's supply of Bagels! (that's 1 a day by the way).
For anyone who hasn't yet been converted to a life living with bagels, a liquid alternative will be on offer (a bottle of red vino collapso).

You can watch Lance's progress on TV on Sunday from 1430hrs on Eurosport.
