Bennachie Hill Race 7th October Update
Its
just under 3 weeks to the Bennachie Hill race, and preparations are
well underway for this year's event.
BHR advertising goes
nationwide - see article, right
This year we have also added
a Junior Hill race to the race program. This is in response to a
number of requests to bridge the age gap between the junior relay
races and the senior hill race; so now the relay race is restricted
to U13, and the junior hill race from 14 years to U18 (with age
categories of U14,U16 & U18).
It also fulfills our obligation
as a running club to encourage people of all ages to participate in
the sport of running - this is particularly important in the
"teenage years" where habits of a lifetime are often
estabilshed...
Take a wee moment and click
here to
have a look at the route for the junior hill race.
Its 3 miles
long and as you can see theres a considerable overlap with the
senior hill race route; this is to minimise the number of extra
marshals we will need on race day.
It does mean however that we
will need to muster as much help as we can on race day -
particularly as there are a number of GRRers either away on race
day, or have fled the country entirely in the pursuit of some
sunshine (haste ye back Jane, Andy & Assynt....)
So please
try and make yourself available for BHR race day; many hands really
do make light work in this instance...and it certainly doesnt mean
you cant also compete, far from it as heres hoping GRR can be well
represented in the race too.
BHR Cake Call
The GRR tea
& cake tent will as usual be in attendance at BHR, so calling
all you Nigellas, Jamies & Gordons out there - we'd like to get
our hands on your buns (especially the homebaked ones)
There
seems to be a new microtrend emerging at local races this year -
competitive cookout syndrome, where race organisers seem to be
trying to outdo each other with the array of sandwiches & cakes
on offer after the race (if you took part in any of the 10k races in
the northern scot series, then you'll know what I mean).
This is
another sporting discipline that GRR has traditionally excelled in,
and looks like we may be a victim of our own success.
So, all
sandwiches, cakes etc. that you can bring along on raceday would be
greatly appreciated.
That just leaves the small matter of
race day weather....
I have it on good authority that the weather
cant be any worse that last years!
Enough said.
