Aviemore Half Marathon Update.

There was a great GariochRR turnout for last weekend's Aviemore half marathon. Despite Graham Donaldson & Grahame Thomson pulling out with illness/injury in the run-up to the event, there were still 12 Garioch runners listed on the results sheet.
The race started in glorious warm Autumn sunshine up in the woodlands of the Rothimurcus Estate, and followed the forest trails round and down and round Loch Morloch for 8 miles before hitting the tarmac road down to Aviemore itself, where (in the tradition of tourist weather) it had started raining....

GRR club times were as follows:-

Donna Gray 01:39:37
Gillian Burtwell 02:18:02
Hazel Riddell 01:50:17
Rachel Paterson 01:41:08 (PB)
Rossie Massie 02:20:50
Assynt Macleod 01:27:01
Brian Ross 01:40:31
Bruce Taylor 01:36:36
Duncan Leel 01:36:40
Ian Cran 01:43:06
Steve Waites 01:45:26
Steven Ord 1:47:56

Thanks to Audrey Leel & Mike Riddell for taking some race photos - they've been posted on the GRR web gallery.

Well Done Everyone!

Good Luck to Steve Waites & Rosie Massie who head off this week to the USA to compete in the New York Half Marathon (oh and a spot of bagel bingeing too...)

GariochRR Xmas Party

Hard to believe, but Xmas is almost upon us (mmmm mixed fruit spiced bagels.....).

So we need to decide pretty soon on a date & location for the club xmas party. Last year some of you may (or possibly may only partially) remember we went to the Kintore Arms hotel in Inverurie for one of their 'bring a party to a party' evenings, which by all accounts was pretty good fun.

Our party usually also has one of the best raffles prizes that money cant buy - the club place in the 2008 london marathon! Anybody who has applied for the FLM and didnt get a ballot place is eligible to take part in the draw, just bring along your rejection slip on the night, and who knows, you may have more than a sore head in the morning to worry about.....

The KA are hosting a series of parties again this year, with a disco instead of a band, at the cost of £25 per head.
At the time of going to press, all 4 nights in December were available (14th, 15th, 21st & 22nd).

Can you check your diaries & drop us an email at bruce.taylor@ziebel.biz indicating if you plan coming along & if you have a preference for which night we should go.

What's Up This Week
Tuesday Evening...

Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
There's a choice of distances including 5m/6m/7m & 8.6m & even the odd hill for added fun.
GRR also has an arrangement with the sports centre for free use of their changing & shower facilities (just say you are with GRR at reception).
Click here showing the meeting point (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Thursday Evening...

Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
Despite the less than ideal running surface, this isnt as bad as it sounds; its fully lit throughout, and at this time of year a clear crisp autumnal evening can be quite refreshing.
Click here showing the meeting point (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Saturday 20th

Club run from Esson's car park, Bennachie. Meet at 8.00am for an off-road run on our favourite hill.

Sunday 21st

Well, depending on how you look at it, the clocks go back an hour, meaning that there's either an extra hour in bed or an extra hour for that extra long training run you've been promising yourself for ages....

Have a great week

Run Long and Taper.
The GariochRR team.
