Assynt's Leaving Doo

Our chairman has finally got the green light to go and work in Houston for a couple of years.
In case you didnt get his e-mail last week, theres a final soiree planned on the evening of Friday 29th Feb, consisting of a trip to Inverurie's Spice of Life and then a few drinks at Edwards.
Please send Assynt a text on 07717 346652 if you plan coming along so he can get an idea of numbers.

====================================

Steve Waites is busy organising the schedule for the first half of the summer runs (hoorrah - wont be long thankfully before its time to head out of Inverurie).
If you've got any suggestions for some new runs etc. then now would be a good time to get in touch with Steve (subsea@virgin.net)

He has also set a date for our AGM - Thursday 17th April at 8.00pm at the usual place, Garioch Sports Centre.

Marathoners Needing Your Support

We have a couple of spring-time marathon runners doing some splendid fundraising for some deserving charities; Jason Wilson is running this years London marathon and Rachael Paterson is running the Paris marathon.
Heres some info on them both & details on how you can help support their chosen charities:-

Jason was fortunate(?) enough to get the GRR Club place for this year's London Marathon. He has been running for 4 years, but this will be his first full marathon. He has elected to raise some money for Dreams Come True - a UK charity that helps fulfil the dreams of children with serious or terminal illnesses. Visit their website ( http://www.dctc.org.uk/ ) to see the good work they do.

Jason also has a blog , so you can see how his training is going.

Rachael has been running for 5 years, but this will be her first full marathon. She apparently chose to run the Paris marathon after hearing rumours of cheese and wine on offer at the 32km water station.....She is raising money for the Huntington's Disease Association.
Theres a grand wee article that appears in this weeks Huntly Advertiser that has lots more background. Click here for a read.

What's Up This Week

Tuesday Evening...

Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
There's a choice of distances including 5m/6m/7m & 8.6m & even the odd hill for added fun.
GRR also has an arrangement with the sports centre for free use of their changing & shower facilities (just say you are with GRR at reception).
Click here showing the meeting point (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Thursday Evening...

Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
Despite the less than ideal running surface, this isnt as bad as it sounds; its fully lit throughout, and at this time of year a clear crisp autumnal evening can be quite refreshing.
Click here showing the meeting point (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Saturday 1st

Club run from Esson's car park, Bennachie.
Meet at 8.30am for an off-road run on our favourite hill.
Its been a bit nippy the last couple of saturdays with the frost not quite lifting, but the scenery has been absolutely stunning with some cracking views of Lochnagar set against clear blue skies.....

The GariochRR team.
Help Wanted: Garioch10k
The folks that organise the Garioch 10k have been in touch asking if anybody would like to help out with the marshalling of the Garioch 10k on the 13th of April.
They need about 20 in total but if we could provide any it would help. They are using timing chips this year and will need a few people at the end to remove the chips from the ankles of knackered runners.
GRR's Ian Cran is your contact if you can help out. Ian also tells me that a couple of us are needed to go out on the course early on race day morning to mark up the course.
