Announcements
Congratulations to Tamzin Morris who took part in Friday's final round of the Proms 3k series at Aberdeen Boulevard finishing in a time of 12:52. The overall series times are calculated by adding up a runner's fastest 3 times over the 6-stage series; overall times for our GRRers were:-
Nicola Redgwell 41:42
Tamzin Morris 39:36
David Blane 32:42 (10th overall)

Well Done everyone!
====================================

Congratulations to everyone who took part in yesterday's Inverness Half Marathon; despite a biting wind coming down off the loch, the winter showers held off during the race to allow some PBs to be notched up.
Times were as follows:-
Sandra Reid 1:46:24
Brian Ross 1:37:35 (PB)
Bruce Taylor 1:34:22
Craig Kelly 1:47:28 (PB)
Duncan Leel 1:36:02
Graham Donaldson 1:19:54
Phil Owens 1:47:49
Steve Barrett 1:33:11
Steve Ord 1:38:53 (PB)
Steve Waites 1:43:46

Well done everyone!
====================================

Congratulations to Bruce Taylor who logged his 10,000th mile of running last week, as part of a lifetime goal to run the equivalent of around the world. At 24,980 miles, and based on the current rate of progress, thats just another 12 years running to go apparently......till an 'end of the world party' in 2020 (all invited).

Well done!
====================================

Steve Waites has been busy checking out locations for a GRR road trip, and would like to gauge interest in a trip to Groningen in the north of Holland.
On the 21st September there will be a full marathon, half marathon and 10K, something for everyone, and I'm sure there will be plenty of cafe's open for those who don't even want to run!
You can check out the city and marathon site here and here.

The marathon site is mostly in Dutch but there is a link down the left hand side for "Foreign Information"

Steve has only briefly looked into costs but the days of cheap air fares are long gone. We can fly to Groningen directly from Aberdeen with BMI, which is part of the attraction, and Expedia quotes flights and 3 nights in a hotel for £330 so I guess it would be somewhere in that region.
Can anyone interested in going please get in touch with Steve (subsea@virgin.net)

He has also set a date for our AGM - Thursday 17th April at 8.00pm at the usual place, Garioch Sports Centre.
====================================

Check out Runners World for the chance to win a pair of Saucony trainers every day this month. There's a simple question (we're talking daytime TV IQ levels) to answer, then you're registered for the draw each day.

What's Up This Week

Tuesday Evening...

Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
There's a choice of distances including 5m/6m/7m & 8.6m & even the odd hill for added fun.
GRR also has an arrangement with the sports centre for free use of their changing & shower facilities (just say you are with GRR at reception).
Click here showing the meeting point (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Thursday Evening...

Club Run round Inverurie.
Usual Meeting time of 6.30pm at the foyer in the Garioch Sports Centre.
Despite the less than ideal running surface, this isnt as bad as it sounds; its fully lit throughout, and at this time of year a clear crisp autumnal evening can be quite refreshing.
Click here showing the meeting point (use the zoom to find your bearings).

Saturday 15th

Club run from Esson's car park, Bennachie.
Meet at 8.30am for an off-road run on our favourite hill.
Its been a bit nippy the last couple of saturdays with the frost not quite lifting, but the scenery has been absolutely stunning with some cracking views of Lochnagar set against clear blue skies.....

Sun 16th
There's the Tartan Short 5k at Haddo House, near Methlick.
or
Theres the Edinburgh Half Marathon.

Have a great week.

Run Long and Taper.

Help Wanted: Garioch10k
The folks that organise the Garioch 10k have been in touch asking if anybody would like to help out with the marshalling of the Garioch 10k on the 13th of April.
They need about 20 in total but if we could provide any it would help. They are using timing chips this year and will need a few people at the end to remove the chips from the ankles of knackered runners.
GRR's Ian Cran is your contact if you can help out. Ian also tells me that a couple of us are needed to go out on the course early on race day morning to mark up the course.
