Congratulations to GRR's Grahame Thomson who completed the cycling chalenge that he gave up his sat morning hill run to train for all Spring - the one up the Applecorss pass with the completely unpronuncable name...
Grahame writes:
'I got on better than expected even with catching "man flu" during the last couple of days before the challenge.
It was lucky that on Saturday it was misty & cool during the 6 mile 2053 ft ascent as even in those conditions the sweat was running out my eyebrows. All I remember of the climb was being in a "dream like" state only able to see 10 yards in front and seeing the road disappearing into the misty sky.
That could've been the 2 Sinutabs I took earlier.
Took 45mins for the climb which was fairly good considering I had no "granny" 3rd chain wheel like a lot of the other participants.
On reaching the top we were advised when passing the marshals that there had been 2 crashes already so I decided to follow a female down so far till the mist cleared.
The rest of the route was constantly undulating & probably underestimated by first timers like me.
Overall I took 3:06 which was 1 minute faster than my trainer & unfortunately I beat him on the climb as well. I bet he's regretting selling me his old bike!'

Well done Grahame!

Congratulations to David Blane who ran the Dunecht 5k earlier in the month, finishing in 18.00 mins exactly and a 4th place.

David also did the Longside 10k this last weekend, finishing 8th overall in a time of 38:07.

Well done!

Blog from Rab the Nite Runner and now Mountain Runner

Great news, on Friday 9th of May, I finally completed a burning ambition, the KNOYDART SUPERRIDGE, 26miles, 14,000foa, 7 munros. Done in the first attempt, COMPLETEY anaided, solo attempt. No one has ever recorded this feat in one day, these mountains are the most remote and diffulcult ones to climb in scotland, and the time:
13hs 25mins 15 sec

I was wearing my GRR running vest through out, I am now ready to contact scottish hill runners to get my feat in the long distance records,so even someone betters my time , I will be the first.

Day 1: I had to walk 5 miles to the start line, Kinbreack bothy, very remote place and the path is had to find, well at least the place was empty, I had to abandon my sleeping bag and mat, there was no way i would take that stuff the next day.

Day 2: up at 0430 tea with 4 sugars over the bothy fire and a muller rice, then off at 5.30am , lovely clear day , but after munro 4 (11am) the heat was really getting to me and knowing that I had a 3,100ft steady climb to no 5, but the clould blotted out the sun and few spots of rain, lady luck shinned down on me, the last munro, Ladhar bheinn, was hell on earth, the was some serious scrambling on the ridge , and I was done to my last gell, i had used 10 allready, but i mananged to get thru it and on to the top . By this time I was starting to hallusinate, and feelin really sick , so made to the top 12 hrs 22mins since the start line, I had to get to the bottom and the track to Inverie, my good friend Rodger was waiting with his landrover , so the clocked when I crossed the falloch river, I was done in !!!!!!!!!!!

Day 3: I managed to get a boat to mallaig, but missed the 10 am train , the next one was 4 pm, so I hitched a lift, to glenfinnan AND a 9 mile walk back to my car and another 1500 foa, more rough paths, in order to get back to my car in good time, I started running down the glen, got to the car at 7pm and didnt get home to midnight, well thats that I reckon what I done was equal to running 3 marathons back to back, next challenge. Well the west highland way race, 95 mlies, 11,ooo foa, next year, that it i need a good shrink!!!!!!!!!!!!!
