- Hello, and thank you for coming to have a look at "Greebeau's Pages",
even if you are just being nosey.
- This site is still fairly new and rather simple (like me) so please do not
laugh or throw tomatoes at it and don't be surprised if any of it doesn't
work!
What's all this "Greebo" or "Greebeau" stuff?
- "Greebo" (or "Greebeau") is the name I use in education newsgroups. Many
readers of those groups know where the name comes from but some people are
still mystified, so....
- "Greebo" is the name of Nanny Ogg's cat in several of the books in Terry
Pratchett's "Discworld" series. A spell causes him to change between
being feline and human. He has a reputation for being on the randy side.
- I adopted the name "Greebo" to use in newsgroups because I like the character.
As far as I know I do not share any of his characteristics except, perhaps,
the desire to curl up and go to sleep at any time of the day.
- I have started to use the alternative spelling "Greebeau" to avoid possible
confusion with any other characters who may use the name "greebo" on the internet.
- If you want to find out more about the Discworld and its peculiarities,
look at the "lspace" site.
Who am I really?
- If you really want to know, then click here
to find out more.
What is the staffroom all about?
- You will sometimes find me hanging out in uk.education.staffroom,
which is a kind of virtual staffroom.
- It is a newsgroup where teachers and others from the world of education
can get away from talk of serious educational matters and talk about
more serious things like gerbils, chocolate biscuits and pantomimes.
- I should warn vistors about a few protocols:
- don't stand behind the hippo
- don't mention the Tea Race
- don't point out dust on the bookshelf while Gertie the Cleaner is around
- don't say the of**** word
- feel free to sit in the brown chair
- don't use the mug with the chip in it - thechip belongs to Paul
- be wary if anyone offers you a "chocolate" biscuit
- be wary of mentioning any animals, as the animal you mention is likely to
materialise in the staffroom
- please don't cross-post messages to other groups: we come into the staffroom
to keep away from Real Life, and besides - some of the characters who like
to rant about teachers upset the animals.
