Home Up Part 1 Part 2

"I know I might not necessarily be the person you most want to talk to but I have had kids and I know what it’s like," Eva said as they drove out of the station.

"Maybe Chandler’s right, like he said I’m not exactly mother material am I," she replied staring blankly out of the window.

"I wouldn’t exactly have said I was before I got married. You don’t know how your going to feel until it happens, everything changes. How far gone is it?"

"4 months."

"You haven’t got long to make decisions then. If you feel that you don’t want to have it then you’ve got to make sure your sure about it and act on it. If your not then whatever you do don’t do anything you’ll regret later. There are other paths to consider, there’s always adoption if you change you mind later on."

"Yeah and have some kid turning up on my doorstep sixteen years later saying hi your my mother," she replied making them both laugh. "You must have planned to have your kids though, you were married, in a stable situation.

"Yeah but I was young, stupid and impressionable. We were both young when we got married. We both wanted kids but thought we were happy as we were so we’d leave it a few years. A couple of months later I was pregnant. I was scared of what he’d say so I didn’t tell him. I started thinking of what to do. I was going to have an abortion without him noticing. I thought maybe I’d tell him really late on, pretend I hadn’t known about but already have adoption sorted out. My plans kept getting worse and worse. One was that I’d hide the fact I was pregnant, go on holiday for a couple of weeks, have it and then leave it on the doorstep. One day her caught me in my lunch break looking at baby magazines in a newsagent. We went into Mcdonalds and I told him. He couldn’t stop smiling and started jumping around and hugging me in the middle of the restaurant," Eva said talking non-stop all the way there. They were at the crime scene by now so they had to put there conversation on hold but Debbie felt a lot calmer having been able to talk to someone.

They had a look around and talked the scene of crime officer to see what they thought. Uniform had talked to the neighbours but there was only one old man’s statement that seemed to be of any use. They went and talked to him which took a lot of work as he wouldn’t turn his hearing aid up and spent half the time complaining about his next door neighbours music. They were worn out by the time they’d finished interviewing him and went back to the station for lunch. Eva went to the canteen where she joined Mickey Webb and sat chatting to him. She didn’t stay too long as she wanted to get back to the case. As she left the main station building she saw Debbie talking to Supt. Chandler. She waited until he’d gone back to his office then walked over.

"What did he want?" She said.

"He wants to know what I’m going to do, whether I’m going to go to the appointment at the abortion clinic. I can’t believe he went and did that. I bet he’s only paying me any attention so that I don’t blab to anyone else about him and me."

"Just don’t base any decisions on what he wants."

"I don’t know what to do. I’ve never had any maternal instincts. I thought I’d just want to get rid of it without thinking but it doesn’t seem that simple anymore. I can’t imagine myself as someone's mother."

"You’ll be on your own I assume?"

"Yep. He give me whatever money I want but that’s as far as his commitment goes. I don’t think I’d want him around anyway," she said sourly.

"Well it’s up to you girl but I’m here if you need me," Eva said going back to get on with some work.

"Thanks Eva. I haven’t exactly given you the best welcome here. I wouldn’t have blamed you for laughing in my face, thank you," Debbie replied sincerely.
