Palaeogeography

(Be patient - loading animation!)

Our knowledge of geologically more recent events (Jurassic-Present) has allowed the reconstruction of palaeogeographic maps of the Antarctic region and the breakup of the (last) supercontinent, Gondwana.

(Figures and key from Lawver et al., 1991)

Key: AP = Antarctic Peninsula block, EWT = Ellsworth-Whitmore Mountains block, MBL = Marie Byrd Land block, NNZ = North New Zealand block, SNZ = South New Zealand block & TI = Thurston Island block
