| St Day is a village with one of the longest histories of rugby in the County, at one point the mines of St. Day made it more important than either Redruth or Camborne.
It is the mines that have shaped the character and history of the village and it is from the mining families that the rugby team was formed. The miners were hard men and they brought to St.Day a brand
of rugby that was tough and uncompromising, and throughout the last
108 years the rugby team has retained this tough approach. But when the game is over those same St. Day players and officials are warm, friendly and welcoming. The lovely lush green, tree lined ground
with its famous slope lies quiet and the stories are told in the St. Day Inn over a pint of beer of past games and players as well as discussing the latest game.
Today the St. Day rugby club has become part of the history of the village. |
