Leicester
Croquet Club was formed in 1985. We play on an excellent bowling green surface
at Victoria Park situated on the main A6 London Road on the edge of the city.
Club play usually takes place on Sunday afternoons and Monday, Wednesday and
Thursday evenings. The
season usually runs from late April to early October. In the close season we usually
hold a couple of social events.
The Club is
well equipped and we have an adjacent clubroom in the park pavilion with the
usual facilities for refreshments and washrooms.
We always
welcome new members whether beginners or with some expertise. For
beginners we run an annual "Learn To Play" course over 3 to 4 weeks
early in the season. Membership is open to all ages and both sexes. All that is required is a
pair of flat-soled shoes; all other necessary equipment can be supplied by the
club. Coaching for club members is also held during the season by C.A.official
club coaches.
The club belongs to The East Midlands Federation of Croquet Clubs
and we compete in local, regional and national competitions annually. This on an
individual and team basis. We also hold our own club tournaments for
members. Over the years we have enjoyed considerable success in such
competitions.
Croquet can be played on equal terms by everyone young and old,
male and female either as a gentle social activity or as a competitive sport.
There are many fine croquet players with disabilities. Although croquet is
widely portrayed as a genteel pastime played on vicarage and college lawns there
is, in fact, a series of keenly contested club, team and individual competitions
and tournaments staged annually throughout the country.
We regularly hold special sessions for social clubs such W.I. and
Round Table and are always willing to arrange corporate and hospitality events upon request at
a small charge per head. Please contact us for full details. Refreshments can
also be arranged to coincide with these events. Alternatively see our list of
numerous places to eat and drink nearby.
