Now let's face it !
Who is the person who has meddled with the book by inserting so much scribble and typechatter which form no part of the original??
He is Keith Lithgow Cairncross (b. 1910) of Atherton in Queensland, formerly of Victoria.
The book was loaned to him for copying and critical study, in January 1982, by Gwendoline Alice Cairncross, wife of Frank Graham Cairncross. The latter is the grandson of the eldest brother of the father of K.L.C.
The Cairncross family in Victoria are connected with the family tree outlined in Appendix No.5(d) - (4) (p.173)
in the following way:
William of Prestonpans (b. 1759) was the brother of the grandfather of the grandfather of K.L.C. This has been established by very extensive searches of records undertaken overseas by Gwendoline Alice C. who has done so much to record the details of the family in Victoria particularly.
The intention behind the pencil notes and typed inserts has been to assist in extracting the maximum amount of information from the material provided in the text. Any errors involved in the comments and notes are due to K.L.C. only and he would be pleased to receive any differing opinions regarding same. The use of the abbreviation 'nfd' is intended to indicate that 'no further details' were available at the time. The use of page references such as '86.5' is to assist in quickly pinpointing the item referred to as being half-way down the page.
The book was returned to the safe keeping of Gwendoline Alice C. in October, 1982, with a deep sense of gratitude for being able to make use of it for such an extended period by - -
