It is noted Elam is not listed in the census for 1891. This was because he was in Wales visiting his sons. He stayed that night with Frederick and Clara. Frederick, like his brothers, had come to Wales to work in the coal mines. He did not stay that long though, and returned to Tintinhull to resume work as farm labourer/ploughman. Here is the 1891 census showing Elam staying with Frederick, and here is the proof he is wrongly listed as Eleanor. On Jul 8, 1929, they were living at 38 Carne Street, Pentre. Here is a newspaper article of Henry and Martha celebrating their Golden Wedding on Dec 26, 1948. They were living at 9 Paddock Close, Letchworth at the time of their golden wedding, and here is the original photo used. Here is an article from the local newspaper headed “There were four generations present”. Here is Henry’s passport, paired with Martha. It is in 3 images; one, two and three. Sadly Henry's photo is missing from page 3. According to the passport, Henry’s profession was as a Miner. It is clear that about July 1929 Henry and Martha were planning to emigrate to America, probably to join their daughter, Gladys and her husband Tom, who went there about that time. Two months after the death of Elizabeth Ann, Ernest sailed to America on the SS Merion. Once settled, he returned for Clarice. At some time, when in America, he met and married Nettie. Here is the obituary of Elizabeth Ann. She was interred at Cwmavon churchyard on Dec 28, 1910. Here’s what Gail Waite has to say about Ernest and his life, “Ernest Russ 1879-1969: After marring Elizabeth Ann they adopt their daughter Clarice. Elizabeth dies aged 31 on Christmas Eve 1910 & in Feb 1911 Ernest leaves for US sailing on the SS Merion. Once settled he returned home for Clarice, he remarries Nettie & lives in Ironwood, Michigan until his death in 1969.
