Who
are we?
Formed
in 1983, The Invicta Concert Band comprises three kinds of instruments -
woodwind (piccolos, flutes, oboes, cor anglais, bassoon, clarinets and
saxophones), brass (trumpets, french horns, trombones, euphoniums and tubas),
and percussion (drums, tympani, cymbals. tubular bells xylophone etc. etc.). It

Our
members are drawn mainly from Canterbury, Herne Bay, Whitstable, Thanet and
the neighbouring villages. Most are amateur players but many have served in
the bands of the regular and territorial armies and the Royal Marines. They
add a professional finish to the playing and help to ensure a high standard
of performance. Over
the years we have earned a sound local reputation, evidenced by the
increasing number of events we are invited to attend each year. During the
summer season we regularly appear on the bandstands of Kent's seaside resorts
as well as playing at fetes, galas and sports events. Out of season we give
concerts in towns and villages throughout the area. We also perform at more
distant events giving concerts in Greenwich Park, London and playing for the
International Flower Festival at Regent's Park. The Band is also known for
staging concerts to raise funds for children's charities. The
Band practises every Tuesday evening from 7:30 to 9:30 at Herne Bay High School. This is situated in
Bullockstone Road in Herne Bay. If you are interested, why not come along to
a rehearsal, or phone the Musical Director? You should be capable to
Grade V on your instrument.
