£6.00 Boot Lights

As I was fed up with fumbling around in the dark in my Roadster's boot, I decided to put some lights in there. I took a trip down to the local car breakers and came back with two of the lights Citroen Saxos and Peugeot 206s have in the inside of their boots/hatches (they're the same part).

I chose these as they looked great, with nicely rounded edges and sit pretty flush to the panel when fitted and were easy to fit/remove. I also bought the small plunger switch that triggers the lights when the hatch is opened, but as it turned out I didn't use this. The three parts cost £6.00.

When I got home I removed the felt liner that's attached to the back of the boot and had a poke around, trying to decide where to put the switch. I couldn't find anywhere suitable that didn't require cutting or drilling big holes in the body. What I did find was a small blue plug with two female spade connectors wired to the same colour wires as the number plate lights. I tried connecting the new lights to this and voila - when I turned the sidelights on they lit up.

Next, I carefully cut two rectangular holes in the liner with a Stanley knife and pushed the lights in, they fitted firmly and look perfect. The lights are held in place by the small metal bracket that springs out from one side of the light and clamps it to the liner, just as it did in the Saxo/206.

So for £6.00 I had a well-lit boot whenever the lights are on and I was very pleased with the look.
