Gran Canaria in Canary Islands - March 2003 - these shots, reduced in size and JPG Optimized to speed download, were taken with a handheld Sony TR840E Hi8 camcorder and captured as still frames via a Hauppauger Win TV Go model 607 PC card.

After regular short winter breaks to Tenerife over 15 years, this is our first visit to Gran Canaria and Colina Mar Apartments.  We'd definitely come again.  The weather remained hot and sunny [high 70-80s].  Despite a near full moon, the high levels of light pollution at our Puerto Rica resort rendered views of stars near impossible - the southern resorts from San Agustin to Puerto Mogan would be similar.  However  Canopus and g Velorum [brightest Wolf-Rayet star] were easy naked eye objects on meridian with no attempt to find a dark site. The map shows our daytime trips across the rugged central region, Las Palomas and southern coastline via a week's car hire.

Soria - view SW in the rugged central highlands of probably of Vista de Soria at 2954ft [902m]  - highest nearby peak is Pico de las Nieves [Peak of Snows] at 6400ft.

Puerto Rica enjoys its sports

Puerto Mogan [Little Venice] is a pretty resort and marina of pleasing low scale which we visited several times by car and ferry from Puerto Rico.
Playa Ingles is the island's principle resort linked on the seaward side by the vast Maspalmas sand-dunes.  Windfarms near airport on horizon.
