2000 Sept 22: The annual meeting of The Astronomer, held at St Mary's Church Hall - Basingstoke, is the opportunity to meet top amateur astronomers and hear an excellent range of talks in familiar surroundings. There was a capacity attendance of 50. Three of the talks were on the hot topic of nova discovery and a follow-up talk on GRB. Guy Hurst,TA Editor, presented book prizes to Arto Oksanen [cover award] and Mark Armstrong [best overall contribution] for the last year.
The meeting stood in silence to the memory of TA members George Alcock and John Hosty and those who lost their lives at the WTC - New York.
