Teide Park - Parque Nacional de las Canadas del Teide is a magical place on the plateau at 2000m altitude beneath Teide's towering 3718m peak. The cablecar carries the visitor from the Park floor to 3555m [11820ft ie 2-1/4 miles above sealevel] some 163m short of the summit.
Flora & fauna - the Parque las Aquilas - Los Christianos and Mariposario de Drago - Icod are well worth a visit.
Extreme sports - from the 1000m peak of Roque del Conde hang-gliders would weave to and fro heading for the beach of Playa de las Americas at dusk some 6km away. The ever-windy east coast near El Medano is a mecca for sail-boarding.
Dragon Tree - Icod is reputed over 2000 years old - we have seedling at home from berries collected in earlier years before its current confinement!
Basilica de la Candelaria, on the east coast, is the religious centre for the Island. The light surrounding the Black Madonna image in the church painting [viewing south along the coastline from Candelaria?] resembles a mock-sun or standing wave cloud seen near the peak of Mt Teide.
