wpo - Wolf-Rayet stars in Cygnus & Cepheus

2002 Sept 28/29: In these lo-res spectra via the SX MX5c single-shot colour camera I return to my favourite subject - the exotic Wolf-Rayet emission-line stars in Cygnus/Cepheus in exposures to 60s.  Some of the stars are known by their variable star designations.   A 30cm SCT used with Rainbow Optics transmission grating immediately before the CCD in non-objective or field mode, to yield a dispersion of 22A/pixel.

The captured spectrum is shown at the bottom of each set - above is expanded via PaintShop Pro and then saturation increased to reveal the glorious colours at top.  As colour tends to suppress the spectral lines, the colour info is first dumped prior to extracting the trace via the SX mono software.

All WR stars have strong emission lines but these are suppressed in binary systems  - see bottom of page.

Emission lines suppressed in binary systems below where the secondary's spectrum has a greater contribution to the continuum.
