Storytelling Events in Wales and the Marches

Events and Festivals

Storytellers may be heard in theatres and arts centres, taking part in festivals or street entertainment, visiting schools or adding life to a historic site, or just telling stories in a pub or hired room.

There are a few festivals dedicated primarily to storytelling, and others which include some storytelling alongaside Folk Music or literary talks. A storytelling festival is an ideal chance to hear all kinds of stories and tellers.

Storytelling Circles

These are not in general intended for an audience to sit and listen to polished performers, but as opportunities for anyone to tell a story in a safe environment, where everybody is in the same boat. A circle is a place of power, a focussing of energy, but also a place of equality, of community. Each group is different, small or large, chatty or formal, and may work in a different way (I've not been to them all myself), but there is no compulsion to tell a story; of course if no-one does, then there are no stories!
