Medals Return To Welford

On Valentines Day 2009 the Medals of Ernest Traeger, the Special Operator on Lancaster DV290  were returned from Australia to RAF Welford by his Niece Jeannette Parker. The medals were brought back to London for Court mounting before returning back to the family in Australia later in the year, so this was an opportunity to return them to Welford and visit the group memorial  .

The medals consist of

1939-45 Star , The Aircrew Europe , Defence Medal , War Medal and the Australian Service Medal.

The Parkers had been involved in researching their family history here in England when they came across the RMARG website and contacted the group. Jeannette Parker will be returning to take part in the Wellford  65th Anniversary of  the Nuremburg raid and Annual Memorial Ceremony in March and to unveil the new permanent memorial to the crew of DV290 of which her uncle was the Special German speaking operator in the Welford Museum .

Jeannette ,on behalf of the Traeger family , presented the group with an identical set of medals to form part of the permanent memorial to her late uncle  to join the medals of both the RAF crew and the Canadian crew medals presently with the group. The Parkers also presented the group with a number of original Australian Airforce items including cap badge , set of buttons , and a dated side cap which will be arranged in the museum in due course.
