The idea for a coffee shop at St. Luke’s came from our Friday night Bible study group, and in October of this year we celebrate its tenth anniversary. We opened in 1993 and our aims were, and still are, to provide, coffee, tea and cakes in a friendly atmosphere, for anyone who cares to come, particularly perhaps for those who live alone, or don’t get out very much and might be in need of a friendly chat.
Although our numbers have never been very high, we have over the years welcomed quite a lot of people whose company we have enjoyed, and whose lives have been enhanced by their visits.
In 1997/1998 we started to provide lunches to raise funds for charity and in those few years we have raised just under £2000, for things like; The Victims of AIDS in Africa, MENCAP, Earthquake and flood disasters, and of course our own church to name just a few.
We have had a tremendous amount of fun over the years and we thank god for the opportunity to be of some small service to the community. Our thanks go to all those who have encouraged and supported us.
We meet after the short service each Thursday morning everyone is very welcome
