Mothers Union

The Children of Reception and Class 1 of Tittensor First School spent a happy afternoon on Wednesday Dec. 3rd when members of the Mothers Union invited them to a Christmas party in the church vestry. Games and competitions were organised by the ladies and after a delicious tea the children each received a goody bag. A lovely time was enjoyed by all and the ladies were especially pleased to meet the children.

On Wednesday Nov. 6th we were pleased to welcome Pat Huckfield to our meeting. She told us about her most demanding, interesting and worthwhile job as a night care assistant at a local council home for children aged between 12 and 17. They come into care for a variety of reasons, some for a short stay, where parents were ill or in prison and some for an indefinite period. The most vulnerable, disturbed and saddest cases seemed to be those whose parents had rejected them and these children very often felt unloved and unwanted. I think few if any of us would want Pat’s job as sometimes it took all her powers of persuasion and strength of will to get these youngsters to obey the rules and not be disruptive. Pat said that each time as she approached the home she prayed for strength, guidance and that God would keep her safe through the night

The Deanery festival of Holy Communion was celebrated at St. Luke's church on Wednesday 22nd October at 2:00pm, with the Rector, the Rev. Barry Brewer officiating. Mrs. Rosemary Walker, the MU diocesan president gave an interesting talk on the work of Mary Sumner and the literacy development project.

The service was well supported with members able to purchase Christmas cards from the literature stall. A delicious tea was provided with thanks going to the Tittensor ladies for all their hard work. Altogether a lovely afternoon of friendship and fellowship.

On Wednesday 2nd October Tittensor mothers Union spent a happy afternoon in the company of members of Christ Church, Stone. Mr John Kirby, a trustee of the charity SCALE (Sound Creation Advancing Learning Education) was the speaker who brought along various instruments that are used to help through music and vibes, anyone with special needs. We were also invited to join in the demonstration.

Pictures were on sale in aid of the charity and afterwards we enjoyed delicious cakes and tea. A very enjoyable and informative afternoon.
