The Pathfinder Long Distance Walk  - 1 MAY 1999
The Charity
Caring for men and women blinded in the Service of their Country

As is customary with the long distance walks carried out by Ignatian Cadets, the Pathfinder will be sponsored for charity.  It is recommended that walkers are sponsored by the mile (all 46 of them, or as a single donation) in the unlikely event that they cannot complete the distance, for whatever reason.

Please help by sponsoring us as we attempt the Pathfinder Long distance walk so that St Dunstan's can continue to assist blind ex-Service men and women who gave their sight defending the freedom of our country.

For most people, it is hard to imagine what it must be like to be without sight.

St. Dunstan’s helps to rebuild the lives of men and women who are not only blinded but also, in many cases, appallingly injured in the service of their country.

St Dunstan's is doing all it can to make life tolerable for those who were blinded in the First and Second World wars (one St. Dunstaner has now been blind for 82 years).

The younger St Dunstaners have been blinded more recently in conflicts such as Northern Ireland, the Falklands, the Gulf and Bosnia as well as peacetime accidents, such as landmine clearance around the world.

St Dunstan’s recent applications for Government and National Lottery assistance have been turned down.
