Flying with the RAF Section

This is one of the many reasons cadets join the RAF section.  You get to fly at least once a year either during the school term or at Easter/Summer Camp.

How much does it cost?  Privately it would cost ~£50 but with the CCF it costs ONLY £1 and that's for the petrol for the minibus to get you there!

From the moment you've passed your recruits and drill and turnout tests you are eligible for AEF or Air Experience Flying. Don't worry! You will be with a qualified pilot and although you will be allowed to take control and carry out some manoeuvres, takeoff and landings will be carried out by your instructor.

These are some of the controls you will be able to use with confidence even when you get to try aerobatics!

Over the last few years AEF has seen some changes in the types of aircraft cadets have been flying.  The coming year will be no exception.

To begin with the AEF will be carried out at RAF Wyton, moving from Marshalls at Cambridge.  The planes have also changed from the Chipmunk to the Bulldog and soon to the Grob 115D.

Once you have been in the cadets a number of years you may wish to apply for a Flying Scholarship.  This is where the RAF pays for your flying training up to solo standard after which you will be awarded your "Wings"
